INTERPOL on December 1, 2011 released the following:
“Mrs Aliyeva receives inaugural INTERPOL Fund for a Safer World medal
BAKU, Azerbaijan – Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Lady of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, as well as an internationally respected humanitarian, has received the inaugural INTERPOL Fund for a Safer World medal at the Foundation’s headquarters in Baku.
Presenting her with the award, INTERPOL’s Secretary General Ronald K. Noble said ‘it is fitting for INTERPOL to recognize the unique contributions by select individuals and organizations providing substantial support for our commitment to a safer world.’
“Mrs Aliyeva has demonstrated not only a passionate commitment to the well-being of the people of Azerbaijan, but also strong support for INTERPOL’s efforts in pursuing safety and security for the citizens of all of our 190 member countries.
“INTERPOL looks forward to long term cooperation with the First Lady and the Heydar Aliev Foundation which she heads,” concluded Secretary General Noble.
In accepting the award, the First Lady underscored Azerbaijan’s ongoing support for INTERPOL since becoming a member in 1992 and emphasized the close cooperation with INTERPOL as an important element of Azerbaijan’s commitment to providing a safe environment for citizens and international visitors to the country.
The INTERPOL Fund for a Safer World, which was unveiled at the world police organization’s General Assembly in Vietnam earlier this year, will provide a platform for public-private sector collaboration in making an effective contribution to crime prevention and law enforcement at the local, national and global level.
Mrs Aliyeva received the first of a limited set of specially commissioned medals created for the INTERPOL Fund for a Safer World, to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to global safety and security.”
