The 4th Middle East and North Africa Heads of NCB Meeting

INTERPOL on September 29, 2011 released the following:

“CASABLANCA, Morocco – Senior law enforcement officers and security experts from the Middle East and North Africa gathered in Casablanca (26-28 September 2011) to discuss a range of issues surrounding the use of new technologies in the prevention and investigation of crimes.

The opening ceremony commenced with an address by Brahim Bensami, the Deputy Director of the Moroccan Judicial Police, who highlighted the importance of police cooperation within the Middle East and North Africa region. Mohammed Ben Ali Koman, the Secretary General of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, reiterated the importance of such regional cooperation and the necessity of the Arab Interior Ministers Council’s involvement in such.

The three-day meeting, hosted by INTERPOL Rabat, included a workshop on operational support which provides a platform for productive cooperation on a regional level. National Central Bureaus shared their national perspectives on investigative techniques used in their countries in order to adopt a coordinated regional approach to tackle transborder crime.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of nine recommendations that focus on the enhancement of regional cooperation in coordination with INTERPOL’s General Secretariat.

The following National Central Bureaus were represented: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. As for the regional organizations invited, the following attended: The Arab Interior Ministers Council was represented by Mr Mohammed Ben Ali Koman, the Secretary General; the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf was represented by Mr Hazaa Al Hajeri, Assistant Secretary General for Security Affairs; the Economic Cooperation Organization; the International Police Sports Union and Naïf Arab University for Security Science.”
